1st Rule of Film Club: Tell Everyone About Film Club!

Please forward to your friends, acquaintances and just about anyone else you can think
of. Show your support of our national cinema by checking out a Canadian film. If you
know of any Canadian film openings, events or initiatives happening anywhere across the
country, please be sure to let us know by sending an email to filmclub@thismagazine.ca.

1. Opening

HAM & CHEESE
July 30 -- Hamilton, Toronto (limited engagement)
http://www.blackwalk.com/hamandcheese

HAM & CHEESE is the story of two talentless actors attempting to make it in the cruel
world of showbiz. Without an ounce of talent between the two of them and their only
strength being persistence, they'll do almost anything to attain their dream. Except
let it go. Their stories intertwine as the film culminates in a comedy of tragic
proportions.

The cast includes Jason Jones and Mike Beaver (also co-scripters), Samantha Bee (from
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart), Jennifer Baxter (from Love, Sex and Eating the Bones)
and Dave Foley and Scott Thompson (from Kids in the Hall). This film was directed by
Warren Sonoda and produced by Mihkel Harilaid, Jason Jones and Mike Beaver.

Toronto:
Royal Theatre, July 30-Aug 5, Fri & Sat at 9pm, Sun-Thurs at 7pm
Regent Theatre, July 30-Aug 5, call theatre for showtimes

Hamilton:
The Movie Palace, Hamilton, July 28-Aug 5, call theatres for showtimes (HAM & CHEESE is
the first film to be played at this newly renovated theatre)

NOTHING
July 30th -- Montreal
http://www.odeonfilms.com

What happens when two losers are somehow given the power to make things they hate
disappear? Meet David (David Hewlett, TREED MURRAY) and Andrew (Andrew Miller, CUBE),
roommates and friends united in mutual frustration with the petty irritations of life.
Nothing would make them happier than if the outside world of nasty neighbours, callous
bosses, malicious landlords and successful ex-girlfriends would just disappear.
Director Vincenzo Natali (CUBE, CYPHER) brings us the surreal tale of what happens when
their wish finally comes true. Also starring Marie-Jos'e Croze (THE BARBARIAN
INVASIONS).

Remember...1st Rule of Film Club: Tell Everyone About Film Club!

Thirty-eight years and still going strong, THIS Magazine is one of Canada's
longest-publishing alternative journals. Founded by a gang of school activists in 1966,
and originally called This Magazine Is About Schools, the modern-day THIS focuses on
Canadian politics, literature and culture but, in keeping with its radical roots, never
pulls punches. Subversive, edgy and smart, THIS is the real alternative to that.
