e) 5th Annual Planet in Focus (PIF) Environment Film and Video Festival September 28th to October 3rd

PIF’s expanded line-up for 2004 includes 80 films and videos from Australia, Austria, Brazil, Burkino Faso, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Spain, South Africa, the USA and the UK. The festival will screen a diversity of genres - documentaries, feature films, short drama, animation and experimental works.

Peace activist and author Dr. Helen Caldicott kicks off the festival on Thursday, September 22nd at 7pm. Hear the Nobel Prize nominee's message of nuclear disarmament and world peace at OISE Auditorium (252 Bloor Street West). Tickets are $12 each. The evening will be animated with clips from her Oscar-winning film IF YOU LOVE THIS PLANET. Co-presented by the Toronto Women's Bookstore. For tickets, call 416-531-8985.

The Festival’s opening night gala will take place on Tuesday, September 28th at the Royal Cinema (608 College Street). Planet in Focus is pleased to present the Canadian premieres of MINI CINE TUPY (a charming documentary about a movie theatre on the outskirts of Sao Paolo made from recycled "trash") and SIN EMBARGO: NEVER THE LESS (a tribute to the resourceful people of Cuba).
