Don't miss this winner of the Best Canadian Feature Film at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival and the Audience Choice Award & Best Feature at the 2005 Gen Art Film Festival!!

IT'S ALL GONE PETE TONG is a comedy following the tragic life of legendary DJ Frankie Wilde. The story takes us through Frankie's life from one of the best DJs alive through his subsequent battle with a hearing disorder, culminating in his mysterious disappearance from the scene.

A genius in his own right, he clawed his way to the top of the DJ ranks. When the film begins, he is living the opulent life of a superstar, residing in his 'trophy' villa in Ibiza with his 'trophy' wife. This is when tragedy hits.

Born with a hearing disorder, Frankie is rapidly going deaf, with only one functioning ear to complete the new Ibiza season. How is he doing behind the decks? Horrible. How is he doing in the studio where he produces his remixes?

Frankie dives into a low period, struggling with deafness in utter depression. After a year of locking himself away, he emerges on the other side with a fresh attitude towards his affliction. He accepts his deafness and learns to function without sound.

Will Frankie make it back to the DJ booth? Will his new single be any good? Will he get back his opulent old life or does he even want it back? When you can't hear, things look very different.

e) Cinematheque Ontario Lecture Series - Michel Brault in Conversation with Andre Loiselle & LES ORDRES Screening
Tuesday, June 14th at 6:30 p.m.
Jackman Hall, Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas St. West, Toronto

"In Québec, Michel Brault is certainly the most attentive, the most versatile, the most prolific, the most constant of filmmakers." * Claude Jutra

"All that we've done in France in the area of cinéma-vérité came from the National Film Board. It was Brault who brought a new technique of shooting that we hadn't known and that we have copied ever since." * Jean Rouch

"I think you should always, with each script and each director, empty yourself and begin at zero, and invent a new way of expressing yourself." * Michel Brault

Michel Brault (born 1928 in Montréal) is one of the country's most accomplished and innovative filmmakers. His influence as a writer, director, and cinematographer has been significant; his collaborations with Canadian and European filmmakers have been radical, influencing the very core of projects. Brault joined the NFB in 1956, where he worked as a cameraman on a number of films in the Candid Eye series, most notably THE DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS, directed by Terence Macartney-Filgate. That same year Brault co-directed (with Gilles Groulx) LES RAQUETTEURS, a work that was heralded as a sort of manifesto for the NFB's francophone filmmakers. In 1959, Michel Brault met Jean Rouch and became a cinematographer on CHRONIQUE D'UN ÉTÉ (1960), while his co-direction of the magnificent POUR LA SUITE DU MONDE (1963, with Pierre Perrault) was another important milestone. However, Brault's career has been in no way limited to documentary filmmaking. He collaborated with Claude Jutra on À TOUT PRENDRE (1963) and by the mid-sixties he began to work as an independent filmmaker. His director of photography credits include such impressive works as Claude Jutra's MON ONCLE ANTOINE (1971) and KAMOURASKA (1973), and Francis Mankiewicz's LES BONS DÉBARRAS (1979).

We are honoured to host Michel Brault, the recipient of a Governor General's Award in 1996, in conversation with André Loiselle, and to present the classic LES ORDRES, for which Michel Brault received a Best Direction Award at the Cannes film festival, and four Canadian Film Awards. André Loiselle, Ph.D., teaches Film Studies at Carleton University, Ottawa. His most recent book, À l'image d'une nation: Le Cinéma de Michel Brault et l'histoire du Québec Contemporain will be published by L'Harmattan (Paris) in the Fall of 2005.

LES ORDRES NEW 35MM PRINT!

"LES ORDRES is invariably ranked one of the two or three greatest movies made in Canada." * Ray Conlogue, The Globe and Mail

LES ORDRES examines the consequences of the use of the War Measures Act during the October Crisis of 1970, which temporarily suspended civil rights for the entire nation. Filmed in a near-documentary style, the film focuses on five of the more than 450 innocent people arrested and held without warrant or charge. The characters are composites, but the specific details of each story are taken from interviews with real people arrested under the Act. "With LES ORDRES, Brault proved himself as great a director as cinematographer" (Janis L. Pallister). Winner of numerous awards, including the Best Direction Award at Cannes and the Canadian Film Award for Best Feature. We present the film in a new 35mm print courtesy of La Cinémathèque québécoise (Montréal).

Patrons please note: All Cinematheque Ontario screenings are held at the Art Gallery of Ontario's Jackman Hall, 317 Dundas St. West, Toronto (McCaul Street entrance). Cinematheque Ontario Lecture Series tickets are $10.25 for Members and $15.50 for non-members. All screenings are restricted to individuals 18 years of age or older. For ticket information, visit the Official website, www.bell.ca/cinematheque, the year-round Box Office at Manulife Centre (55 Bloor Street West, main floor, north entrance), or by calling the Bell Infoline at 416-968-FILM.

3. Final Call for Canadian Film Ambassadors in Vancouver & Toronto!

Now this is a job ad worth drooling over: First Weekend Club (http://www.firstweekendclub.ca), an organization dedicated to the promotion of Canadian films, is looking for a few good men (and women) to serve as Canadian Film Ambassadors.

What is a Canadian Film Ambassador you may ask? Let us illuminate. This special individual is someone with a flair for both talking and writing and who is dedicated to seeking out great Canadian films and promoting them. The Canadian Film Ambassador is hypnotically charming and has a passion towards film that knows no boundaries.

So what's the lifestyle of a Canadian Film Ambassador like? Imagine being able to be the first to get to attend, along with a friend, Canadian premiere screenings for FREE - you'll make friends fast, that‚s for sure. After seeing a film that especially catches your fancy, all you need to do is talk about it to everyone you know, or just happened to meet at the super store, send an email about the film to at least ten friends and carry out a few other top-secret, undercover tactics.

Think you have what it takes? Send us a note between 100-250 words explaining why YOU would make the ideal Canadian Film Ambassador along with a 50 word bio to: Katherine@firstweekendclub.ca.

There is no other job quite like this. Not only do you get to watch some great films for free, but you are playing a key role in helping to support Canadian film and culture. We're looking for ambassadors that are representative of all sorts of groups: students, seniors, actors, filmmakers, writers, and even "average Joes" (pre-reality TV exposure). Applications are being accepted from Vancouver and Toronto only. All interested parties must send us the requested information by Friday, June 10th.

Remember...1st Rule of Film Club: Tell Everyone About Film Club!

Thirty-eight years and still going strong, THIS Magazine is one of Canada's longest-publishing alternative journals. Founded by a gang of school activists in 1966, and originally called This Magazine Is About Schools, the modern-day THIS focuses on Canadian politics, literature and culture but, in keeping with its radical roots, never pulls punches. Subversive, edgy and smart, THIS is the real alternative to that. Visit THIS Magazine's new-and-improved website http://www.thismagazine.ca!
