1. Opening

Decade Distribution is proud to present the Canadian theatrical release of STRYKER, a film by Noam Gonick (HEY HAPPY). Following a triumphant screening in the director's hometown, STRYKER makes it's way to Toronto after screenings in San Francisco for the Frameline Film Festival, The First People's Festival in Montreal, and The Dreamspeakers Film Festival in Edmonton.

STRYKER is the story of a brutal turf war between two street gangs in Winnipeg's North End. Omar (Ryan Black), the mixed-blood leader of the ABS (aka: The Asian Bomb Squad), dominates the 'hood with his crew of Filipino enforcers. His nemesis, Mama Ceece (Deena Fontaine), is the girl-thug leader of the Indian Posse. She has just been released from jail and is determined to regain control of her neighborhood. STRYKER is Canadian slang for a prospective gang member. This film follows one Stryker (Kyle Henry), a 14-year-old Native arsonist from a northern reserve, whose arrival in the city serves as a catalyst in this fierce battle. The film was shot by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Ed Lachman (KIDS, FAR FROM HEAVEN).

The STRYKER soundtrack teems with the raw energy of the film and was produced by the award winning hip hop producer Hellnback. The soundtrack is available on Arbor Records.

Showtimes are Friday to Thursday, 3:45pm-7:30pm-9:55pm; Saturday/Sunday matinee at 1:05pm.

BRAKHAGE, the documentary, juxtaposes archival footage spanning 35 years, as well as rare film excerpts and vintage and contemporary interviews with Brakhage, his friends, family, colleagues and critics.

First Weekend Club Screening and Q&A in Vancouver
Friday, July 15th

HANK WILLIAMS FIRST NATION, the independent Canadian film by Calgary filmmaker Aaron James Sorensen, makes its Vancouver premiere Friday, July 15th at the Park Theatre at 7pm & 9:30pm. The Friday night screenings will be a gala celebration open to the public with the director Aaron Sorensen and some of the actors available for a Q&A after each screening. Other show times are: Friday 4pm, 7pm and 9:30pm, Saturday & Sunday 2pm, 4pm, 7pm & 9:30pm, Monday to Thursday 4pm, 7pm & 9pm.

HANK WILLIAMS FIRST NATION follows the story of a sleepy northern Cree community that is stirred up when one of its elders, seventy-five-year-old Martin Fox (Jimmy Herman) begins to question the death of Hank Williams after reading too many tabloids and decides one morning that he simply must visit the grave of his long time hero Hank Williams. Colourful characters and events pave the path.

Shot on location in Peace River, Alberta in March of 2004, the film stars Gordon Tootoosis and Jimmy Herman (both from NORTH OF 60 fame) along with a long list of Alberta actors: Including, Edna Rain (Edmonton), Gillian Carfra, Ron Waller, Bernard Starlight, Stacy Da Silva (all of Calgary), and Colin Van Loo (Lethbridge).

b) METALLIC BLUES
Toronto & Montreal
Friday, July 15th

Equinoxe Films is pleased to announce that Danny Verete's internationally acclaimed, tragic-comic road movie, METALLIC BLUES, winner of the Best Actor Award and Best Screenplay Award at the 2004 Jerusalem Film Festival, and winner of the Best Supporting Actor Award from the Israeli Film Academy, will open in Toronto and Montreal theatres on Friday, July 15th. In Toronto, it is the first film to open as part of Capri Releasing's new film program at Al Green Theatre, a state-of-the art cinema located in the Annex area of the city.

The Canada-Israel-Germany co-production is a poignant and provocative film about two Israeli car dealers who risk it all in search of a better life, only to discover the most unexpected personal and historic truths. Avi Kushnir stars as Shmuel, the owner of a small, used car lot in Tel Aviv, and Moshe Ivgy as Siso, Shmuel's assistant and best friend. When an Arab-Canadian in a vintage, metallic blue 1985 Lincoln Continental limousine pulls up into Shmuel's dealership, he thinks he has found the opportunity of a lifetime. He convinces Siso to go into partnership with him to buy the limo for 5,000 Euros, which they plan to sell in Germany for a quick profit. Married, but with no children, Shmuel has less to lose than his partner Siso, a Moroccan Jew whose investment in the '85 Lincoln Continental is important for his children's future. Together, they pool their savings to buy the car, and ship it to Germany, where they also bring themselves and their dreams. But it doesn't take long before the dreams begin to unravel. A film about friendship and reconciliation, Shmuel and Siso walk off into the distance and head back home - friendship and hope restored.

Writer-director and producer Danny Verete won the Best Screenplay Award at the 2004 Jerusalem Film Festival for METALLIC BLUES, and also received a Best Screenplay nomination from the Israeli Film Academy for his tragic-comic film about two Israeli car dealers who risk it all in search of a better life. He also received a Best Screenplay nomination from the Academy in 2001 for his feature Yellow Asphalt.
