a) Whistler Film Festival

November 30 - December 3, Whistler, B.C.

The 2006 Whistler Film Festival will showcase 80+ films, including premieres from some of North America's top directors, and will award over $40,000 in prizes and commissions. This premier event will also feature innovative industry programming through the Filmmaker Forum and four special events.

b) RESFEST 2006

Cutting-edge short films and unique programmes By Design, Cinema Electronica and Videos That Rock. Plus, RESFEST's annual survey of the most innovative Canadian shorts & music videos in the 4th annual CanCon programme. Highlights including a retrospective of the visionary videos for Radiohead, a feature doc on the final reunion of the 9 members of the Wu Tang Clan, Rock The Bells and a new programme of issues-based shorts called Everything Under The Sun.

c) Let's Talk About It -- Special screening for the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre
December 6, 6:00 - 8:00pm, $10
NFB, 150 John St, Toronto

The film by famed director Deepa Mehta and producer Noemi Weis of Filmblanc breaks the silence and secrecy of abuse in immigrant families. It was recently honoured by the CAB with its Gold Ribbon Award for Documentaries & Public Affairs (the second-in-a-row win for Weis, last year it was for her film Gloriously Free.)

a) Unnatural & Accidental
December 1 -- Toronto & Vancouver

Unnatural & Accidental is the feature length dramatic film adaptation of the stage play entitled, The Unnatural and Accidental Women by renowned Metis playwright Marie Clements and is based loosely around the "unnatural and accidental" drowning deaths of native women living on skid row.

Directed by Carl Bessai. Starring Carmen Moore, Callum Keith Rennie


b) Monkey Warfare
December 8 -- Vancouver
December 15 -- Toronto

Monkey Warfare is a film about history, objects, love and revolution -- a cautionary tale about keeping up the fight.

Directed by Reginald Harkema. Starring Don McKellar, Tracy Wright, Nadia Litz

c) Snow Cake

Tight-lipped Englishman Alex Hughes arrives in Northern Ontario on his way to meet the woman with whom he's had a son. He's bullied by an altogether unconventional but lovable 19 year-old hitch-hiker Vivienne into giving her a ride to her hometown of Wawa. When the car is hit by a truck on the outskirts of her home town, Vivienne dies instantly. Alex finds himself, for the second time in his life, grieving for someone he never knew.
